Why Santa Cruz is a gem for remote workers

The city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife seen across its rooftops.

A real city, not a tourist bubble

Live among locals, shop at real markets, and eat where residents eat. Santa Cruz is an authentic Canarian city — not the mass-tourism bubble you find in the south. The capital brings restaurants, bars, theatres, concerts, festivals, and a packed cultural calendar all year round.

A city with a digital nomad scene

Meetups, language exchanges, coworking events and networking happen regularly downtown. Within a 30-minute walk you reach the cafés and bars where Santa Cruz's digital nomad community actually shows up.

The island at your door

Las Teresitas — the island's most famous golden-sand beach — is a 16-minute drive away. The Anaga mountains are 25. And as the home of Tenerife's main bus terminal, every corner of the island is reachable from here.

Warm and sunny weather

Most people wrongly assume Santa Cruz shares the cloudy weather of the north. It does not. The city sits in its own eastern microclimate — warmer, drier and sunnier than the north, with more in common with the south. Translation: plenty of sun to enjoy in our garden!

You don't need a car

There's a bus stop right in front of the coliving — just 85 metres away. Line 912 runs every 30 minutes Monday to Friday, with the last bus at 10:30 p.m., connecting you straight to the Santa Cruz interchange: the island's main terminal, with routes to every part of Tenerife. A taxi from the city centre costs around €7, and the tram to La Laguna leaves from downtown.

The coliving sits on a small hill called Ifara. Walking down into town is easy and comes with panoramic views the whole way. Walking back up is a treat for the active — and for everyone else, a bus, taxi or car does the climb effortlessly.

A rental car will get you around the island faster, but if you'd rather skip it, this is one of the best places on Tenerife to live car-free. Hiking, mountains, beaches, towns and cities are all within reach by public transport. A car saves time — here you simply don't need one to explore.
